Jacob Jordaens (1593 – 1678) was a Flemish Baroque painter who was best known for his genre scenes, historical paintings, and portraiture. He was also a talented tapestry designer, a skill which reflected his ability to use watercolors. Jordaens studied under Adam van Noort the Elder, who also taught Peter Paul Rubens. Rubens was a major inspiration to Jordaens and their work is very similar, however, Jordaens paintings usually favored more realism.
