In chapter 12, Joshua lists all of the kings that the Israelites had conquered, along with all of the territories that were east of the Jordan that they had taken over, which included the Arnon Gorge area to Mount Hermon, as well as the entire eastern region of the Arabah.

The Land of the Sihon King

Sihon king ruled the area from Aroer all the way to banks of the Jabbok River. This was the Ammonite border which included half of Gilead. This king in addition ruled the eastern area of Arabah, starting at the Sea of Galilee to the Arabah Sea, Beth Jeshimoth, and also along the southern slopes of Pisgah.

This also included King Og’s Bashan territory, who was one of the very last Rephaites, that reigned over Edrei and Ashtaroth. He also ruled Salekah, Mount Hermon, and the entire area of Bashan that went to borders of Maakah and Geshur, along with one half of Gilead that went to the border area of the Sihon king in Heshbon.

Conquered Lands

Moses, and all of the Israelites had conquered these areas. Moses had given this land the Gadites, Reubenites, and also to half of the Manasseh tribe. Joshua and all of the Israelites had conquered the land on the Jordan’s western side, from Baal Gad to Mount Halak. Joshua gave these lands to Israel’s tribes as an inheritance.

The land included the western foothills, hill country, mountain slopes, wilderness, Arabah, and also the Negev. This land had been the land of the Jebusites, Hivites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Amorites and the Hittites.

Kings Put to Death

Thirty-one kings had been conquered and put to death. They where the kings of Tirzah, Goyim in Gilgal, Dor, Jokeneam in Carmel, Kedesh, Megiddo, Taanach, Akshap, Shimron Meron, Hazor, Lasharon, Aphek, Hepher, Tappuah, Bethel, Makkedah, Adullam, Arad, Hormah, Gezer, Eglon, Lachish, Jarmuth, Hebron, Jerusalem, Ai and Jericho,

1 Now these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other side Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the river Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the plain on the east:

2 Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;

3 And from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east, and unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea on the east, the way to Bethjeshimoth; and from the south, under Ashdothpisgah:

4 And the coast of Og king of Bashan, which was of the remnant of the giants, that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei,

5 And reigned in mount Hermon, and in Salcah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.

6 Them did Moses the servant of the LORD and the children of Israel smite: and Moses the servant of the LORD gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh.

7 And these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel smote on this side Jordan on the west, from Baalgad in the valley of Lebanon even unto the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir; which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions;
