I THINK that well it isn’t said here but before white or the guy who left left he told the settlers to carve/put one into the ground a cross if there was trouble also where you are going if you leave so the CRO could be CROSS because the settlers might not have had a wooden cross to put in the ground or thought that the cross would look like a t if they carved into a tree so they just did CRO and then maybe the danger got them and only some survived and they left to the croatoan and married into the tribe or became slaves possibly or some of them sailed away using boats and got lost at sea

I believe they Tried to go live with the Indians and all but then they got there and the Indians were not happy with the random guest so they killed them as far as the buildings and forts I think they were on the shore line and then the water level raised and sunk them all. they probably mostly eroded too.
