Apr 24. Manchu forces under the banner of the Qing Dynasty capture Beijing, ending the Ming Dynasty.

Jun 6. Emperor Shunzhi is proclaimed the first emperor of the Qing Dynasty.

  
1661Feb 5. Emperor Shunzhi dies and is succeeded by his third son, Kangxi.
  
1722Emperor Kangxi dies and is succeeded by his fourth son, Yongzheng.
  
1735Feb 8. Emperor Yongzheng dies and is succeeded by his fourth son, Qianlong.
  
1796Feb 7. Emperor Qianlong abdicates the throne in favor of his son, Jiaqing.
  
1820Feb 2. Emperor Jiaqing dies and is succeeded by his second son, Daoguang.
  
1839Mar 18. The First Opium War begins between Britain and China.
