Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter whose paintings are celebrated for their beautiful brushwork and unique style. Born in Zundert, Netherlands on 30 March 1853, van Gogh led a difficult and tragic life. He failed at many of his attempts to find a lasting career and it was not until he was 27 years old that he began to pursue a life as an artist. Unfortunately van Gogh’s move to an artistic career proved to be a bust, as only a few people recognized and appreciated his art. As time progressed, his deterioting mental condition lead to his suicide in July, 1890. In his short time as an artist, van Gogh created an incredible amount of work including drawings and paintings of portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. Though unsuccessful in life, he is now recognized as one of the most important and influential artists of western art history.
