It was the great Italian master, Raphael, who painted the Madonna del Cardellino. The medium used was oil in wood. The work of art is one hundred seven centimeters long by seventy seven centimeters wide. It was said to be painted and finished by Raphael during the years 1505 to 1506. The painting underwent a ten year restoration procedure which ended in 2008. By then, the painting was returned to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence where it continues to be housed. The 3 religious figures, Mary and the young John the Baptist and Jesus were arranged by the painter in such a way that they come together geometrically to form quite a regular triangle.
