John William Waterhouse (April 6, 1849 – February 10, 1917) was an English painter famous for his Pre-Raphaelite style. He worked several decades after the breakup of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, which had seen its peak during the mid-nineteenth century, which gained him the nickname, the modern Pre-Raphaelite. His art featured depictions of women from Authurian legend and Greek mythology, as he was stylistically influenced by not only the early Pre-Raphaelites but also his contemporaries, the Impressionists.
