he was an italian explorer and sailer. He was born in1450. Cabot made his first voyage in 1497. He claimed some of present-day Canada for King Henry VII thinking it was Asia. When he came back to England, the king gave him a grant to discover even more new lands for England. He learned about sailing/navigation from seamen and merchants in Venice when he his family moved(Cabot=11 yrs old). He was inspired by Bartolomeu Dias and Christopher Columbus. His time period was the &quot;Age of Exploration&quot;(1418-1620). Like Columbus, he believed that sailing west from Europe was the shorter route to Asia.]]></description>
