					<description><![CDATA[Vermeer, like many of the 17th century Dutch artists, was a master of light and shadow, texture and the subtle application of correlated hues.  My favorite of this genre, my only criticism is his programmatic placing of his subject and the always (nearly) stage left light source.  I don&#039;t want to be able to guess his paintings before I see them but in many respects his products were very predictable.  Still, my favorite of the masters.]]></description>
