Hans Hofmann Paintings

Hans Hofmann (1880–1966) was a German-American artist who played a very important role in the development of Abstract Expressionism and Post-War American Art. When he was young, he briefly moved to Paris in order to study art and in 1915, he opened up his own art school in Munich. Approximately fifteen years later he was invited to teach in the United States. Hofmann taught many of the United States’ up and coming Abstract Expressionist artists, including  Helen Frankenthaler, Ray Eames, and Lee Krasner, among others. His art is characterized by his experimental and bold use of colors.
