Roman Petrovich Tyrtov (1892-1990), better known by his pseudonym, Erté, was born in St.Petersburg, Russia. In 1910 he moved to Paris so he could pursue a career as an artist. Erté is celebrated for his Art Deco costume designs, opera sets, graphic art, and jewelry. He also illustrated for many publications such as the Harper’s Bazaar, which he designed over 200 covers for. Additionally, many of his fashion designs were adopted by Broadway and Cinema. Erté was a highly respected artist and his works have been shown in various exhibitions throughout the world.
