Édouard Leon Cortès (1882–1969) was a Post-Impressionist painter who was of French and Spanish ancestry. His passion as an artist began early in life. His father, Antonio Cortes Cordero, had been a painter for the Royal Court of Spain and likely served as an inspiration to the young Cortes. He studied painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and in the year 1901 he had his first exhibition. Cortes’ paintings were well received and he went on to have a very successful career as an artist. He is most well known for his beautiful and diverse depictions of Parisian cityscapes; he was dubbed “Le Poete Parisien de la Peinture” or “the Parisian Poet of Painting”.
