A bit of history. This article states “In 1749, Franklin founded “The Academy and College of Pennsylvania.” This was considered the first American academy when it opened in 1751.”

West Nottingham Academy in Colora, MD is older. Founded in 1744 by Samuel Finley, it is still in operation today. West Nottingham Academy (WNA) is the oldest boarding school in the nation. West Nottingham’s early roster of graduates includes many of the most prominent colonial Americans and several signers of the Declaration of Independence. Samuel Finley later became the president of the College of New Jersey (Princeton University).

Benjamin Franklin, with what I have read and heard was respectful, intelligent, and was a great man. Thanks to him and 6 others America has a day to celebrate July 4 1776.

i have written many composition and just then i heard about this prominent man whose name is benjamin fraklin. to me he is a great ,intelligent person that you and i must remember in our minds.i then got contact with the web as quick as possible and to me i heard that he was dead since way before 85 years .

Sorry to take your time. I’m just studying in my own. I love this incredible wonderful person, Benjamin Franklin–we both born in January in very close dates. I do not have the opportunity that he had but I’m trying to do my best.
