I am a direct decensant of Major McCleary who was killed near the end of this battle. After being warned by his superior to stay down, he replied “The shot hasn’t been cast that will kill me”. Seconds later, he was felled by a round from a ship off the coast. A good leader, just a bit cocky 🙂

Hey, Bunker Hill was the original objective of the battle until they all moved to Breed’s Hill. BTW, I am in 8th grade and i seem to know more about this stuff than all of you combined! (except for Carl)

The Battle of Bunker Hill, ( June 17 1775) is also the anniversary of my birth 157 years later….
The British were successful in the battle but, lost the war a year later. The significance here is that the Colonists showed their resolve by repelling the British even though the were out-manned and out-gunned. They continued their resistance and won their freedom from the crown of England thru the Declaration of Independence, 1776.

My maternal grandfather, the Smith family, was born in Rounds, England. He came to the United States at the age of 13
somewhere in the second half of the 1800’s.

Sorry for the history, give thanks to God’s blessing of our brave fore-fathers and their vision.
