Jimmy Ernst (1920–1984) was born in Germany to the Surrealist painter Max Ernst and the art historian, Luise Straus. In 1938, he moved to the United States in order to escape the Nazi regime and acquired work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, NY. Ernst was very involved within the art community of New York and in 1950 he joined the Irascibles group alongside fellow artists Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock. His work falls under both categories of Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism.
