Background

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec painted this to show the Moulin Rouge cabaret that was popular in Paris. The people in the painting actually worked at the cabaret when it was painted.

Appearance

In the painting are many people, from men sitting at tables to mademoiselles getting their girls ready. Some people are enjoying beverages while others are standing up and talking. One important person in the painting is Mademoiselle Nelly C, who is in the right foreground. Even Lautrec is present in the painting near the background with Gabriel Tapié de Céleyran. The walls are brown and teal color and there are brown chairs that can be seen as well. Everyone is dressed nicely, either in suits or long dark dresses with hats.
