Johannes Goritz of Luxembourg commissioned Raphael to paint fresco and thus, The Prophet Isaiah fresco was made in 1512. It was painted on the pillar in the Basilica di Sant’Agostino. Raphael gave a three-dimensional style to the full-bodied Isaiah. The painting depicts the image of Isaiah carrying a Hebrew scroll which contains his prophecy foretelling the birth of Christ and a message to Saint Anne.
It was said that Michaelangelo have had great influence to the fresco. After the Prophet Isaiah has been painted, there were comparisons made to Raphael’s artwork to that of Michaelangelo. It was then speculated that Michaelangelo had hired Raphael to work in Sistine Chapel.
