The Madonna with the Blue Diadem is believed to be painted in 1512 at the Louvre. It was painted by Raphael and Gianfrancesco Penni, his student. It is named as Virgin and Child with Infant Saint John and the Vigil with the Veil or the Virgin with the Blue Diadem. Many names have been given to the painting. Some of which are Virgin with the Linen, Silence of the Holy Virgin and the Slumbering Child. The painting was said to resemble the Madonna of Loreto.

There was a legend that the panel was once split in two and was expertly joined again when it was found.
