Sir Anthony van Dyck (March 22, 1599 – December 9, 1641) was a Flemish Baroque artist. In his art career he eventually achieved the position of leading court painter in England. He is most renowned for his paintings of Charles I of England and the royal family and court. Van Dyck painted with a relaxed elegance that he became a dominant influence on English portrait-painting for the next 150 years. He also painted mythological and biblical subjects.
