Giovanni Bellini (c. 1430–1516) was an Italian Renaissance painter and the most renowned of the Bellini family of Venetian painters. His father was Jacopo Bellini, his brother was Gentile Bellini, and his brother-in-law was Andrea Mantegna. It is said that he ushered Venetian painting into a new era with his more sensuous and colorful style. Bellini created rich, deep tints through the use of slow-drying and clear oil paints.
