Zuccone is a statue that was created by Donatello for the Florence Cathedral in 1423-1425. This sculpture is made of marble and Zuccone is otherwise known as Prophet Habbakuk.
Background
While Donatello was creating the Zuccone statue, he said “speak, speak”, as if he was expecting the statue to come to life.
Appearance
This statue has intricate details that show the layers and ruffles in all of the robes that Habakkuk is wearing. These details make it appear as though the sculpture can come to life. Zuccone has a long robe covering one side of his body that ties to the side. His right arm is showing and he has no hair on his head. His head is facing forward, but is slightly tilted down. The feet of Zuccone can be seen at the bottom of his long robes, which is where the sculpture ends. It is one of the statues that Donatello enjoyed the most.
